Music plays an extremely important role in the development and evolution of the soul as it journeys ever closer to Godhood. Hindus believe that as creation began, the divine, all-encompassing consciousness took the form of the first and original vibration manifesting as the sound "OM" or "AUM". This sacred sound is the mystic name for the Hindu Trimurti and represents the union of the three gods, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. By meditating and repeating this sound the devotee merges with the original sound vibration of the Supreme.

Maharaj used music as a vehicle to convey his messages of love. He delivered hundreds of spontaneous songs, many of which have been picked up by both Indian and Western musicians and re-arranged into commercial tracks with well-known recording artists.

Maharaj first came to the UK in 1971 and began his Mission in Buckinghamshire just outside London. He soon attracted many searching souls due to his powerful spiritual presence and divine aura. People were charmed by his heartfelt speeches, his spontaneous messages and songs and also his personal touch and influence in their day to day lives. And, as his Mission grew, large gatherings were held in London and the Home counties including the first ever World Parliament of Religions conference held at Caxton Hall in 1976, following a tradition that was initiated by Swami Vivikananda in Chicago in 1893 - known then as the World Congress of Religions. The Caxton Hall meeting in 1976 was attended by many religious leaders from the Bahai faith, Judaism and the Catholic Church as well as guest speakers such as Swami Prabhupada from the ISKCON movement and Sri Chinmoy, the well known spiritual teacher, who was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

It was from this event onwards that inspired Maharaj's devotees to film Maharaj's meetings and events, many of which have been edited and circulated amongst the devotees.
